This has been a big story in my neck of the woods. It seemingly hasn't made national news.

This is absurd.

We use the word "premeditated" wrong quite a bit. We imagine Sideshow Bob plotting to kill Bart. Premeditation can happen really fast. Still, in this case, Sloan did plot the attack in writing the night before.

She knew that what she was about to do was wrong. She stated that she picked her victim because she would be an easy target. She stabbed her victim twice and ruptured her spleen. If it weren't for a Navy veteran intervening quickly, this would have been a murder.

Therefore, this is attempted murder -- good for up to twenty-one years.

Now they've dropped the attempted murder charge to aggravated assault -- good for up to only up to nine years.

Sloan is a first time offender. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the next part of this story is that Sloan gets a plea deal and she's out in two years or fewer.

Yeesh, I thought this was supposed to be a tough on crime state.
