Autism Drawns To Water

in #autism4 years ago (edited)

Wandering and admiring the sound of babbling, flowing water by the river, the sound of the mountain's waterfall running down from the crest, the sound of continuously waves crashing to the shore creating beautiful white foams. They are all really relaxing, calming and also naturally stress relieving.
I have no doubt I have positive vibes being around those places, especially waterfalls. I had read an article back then that waterfall is an ion generator, the mist contains negative ion that plays a role in producing serotonin. That's truly key for happiness.

Adam, watching big waves crushing.

No wonder why my son, Adam, is obsessed with water. He even creates his own waterfall by pouring water from one bottle to another bottle, flushes the toilet even though he is not using it, let the water run in the the sink and watching it and the most fun of all to him is spraying water hose into the air.

Playing with water hose at front yard.

Water is a universe to him, water is aggregating and boosting his contentment on a daily basis.
Every bathroom in our home, either in the shower or tub are occupied with his favorite bottles or plastic cups he had collected.
A lot of times he would dump the whole bottle of shampoo, hand soap, shower gel or anything he can find, even conditioner into the tub.

It's a positive thing that I don't need to bring him to the river, mountain or beach during weekend, especially during pandemic. He creates his own fun at home.

Pouring water use a cup he brought from home.

I got it now, if he sit in the foamy tub for hours and pouring water, he is coping with his own anxiety besides having fun.
Since he is a big boy now, he can make his own decision to schedule his own activities.

He will do the painting so he can wash his painting brush afterwards.
Go to the front yard and play with the sprinklers.
Go to the tub.
Go to the backyard to water the plants.

And all of that is about water.

His piece of art in his own bathroom's sink, he won't allow me to clean it up.

Clearly, water is a big help for autistic kids in general and it is logical to them for their sensory impulse. For me, as a parent is really beneficial, my husband and I do concern for his own safety but we keep teaching him bit by bit for him to be aware of surrounding. It isn't enough for my son to know how to swim.

This picture was taken in Galveston, Texas two years ago, back then he had no fear of nothing. Now he got way more aware, he will only stay few feet from us at the beach and won't go far.

Our life is miserable, we may laugh during the day and cry at night but we take it one day at the time while we thinking how can we provide his needs and get ready for his future.

Happy weekday everyone, tomorrow is hump day here.
