The Story of Prophet Noah (Hazrat Nooh Alaihissalam)
1. The Call to Allah - 950 Years
Allah sent Nooh AS as a prophet to his people who worshipped idols named Wadd, Suwa, Yaghoos, Ya'ooq, and Nasr.
Nooh AS preached for 950 years day and night. [Quran 29:14]
He said: "I am to you a trustworthy messenger. So fear Allah and obey me." [Quran 26:107-108]
But only a few poor and weak people accepted him. The chiefs mocked him:
"We see you but a man like ourselves." [Quran 11:27]
2. The Command to Build the Ark
When his people denied him completely, Allah revealed:
"Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration." [Quran 11:37]
As Nooh AS built the ark on land, his people laughed:
"O Nooh, you were a prophet, now you’ve become a carpenter? There’s no water here!"
3. The Great Flood
Then Allah’s punishment came. Water gushed from the earth and rain poured from the sky.
"So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs." [Quran 54:11-12]
Allah commanded: "Load upon the ship a pair of every species, and your family, except those against whom the word has already gone forth."
4. Nooh AS and His Son
One of Nooh’s sons was a disbeliever. Nooh AS called out:
"O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers." [Quran 11:42]
His son replied: "I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water."
Nooh AS said: "There is no protector today from the decree of Allah."
Then a wave came between them, and the son drowned.
5. After the Flood
The flood lasted 40 days. Then Allah commanded:
"O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold your rain." [Quran 11:44]
The ark came to rest on Mount Judi. Only the believers in the ark survived, and humanity began again through them. That’s why Nooh AS is called the "Second Adam."
6. 3 Lessons from This Story:
- Patience: He preached 950 years without giving up
- Allah’s promise is true: Those who mocked were drowned, the believers were saved
- Family ties don’t help: Even a prophet’s son was not saved without faith
Today, Mount Judi is believed to be on the Turkey-Iraq border. Many still consider it the resting place of Nooh’s ark.
