Late 1800's
- 1849 Modern safety pin by Walter Hunt.
- Around the 1850 a type of diaper shoulder suspender were invented, but most people stuck to the simple diaper.
- 1887 This is the year Maria Allen introduced the mass production square nappies.
- “Diaper” was originally the term for an overall pattern of small repeated geometric shapes, and then a white cotton or linen fabric with such a pattern. So the first babies’ diapers were made from diaper fabric, meaning fabric with a repetitive pattern.
