The Cowboy's Ballad
He rode off into the sunset and left her all alone,
Now she is just a gal who is destined to roam.
No shoulder to lean on, no hand to hold,
All because her cowboy's love as gown cold.
She rides her white horse on a moonlit night
Searching and hoping that things will be alright.
The years have gone by but the legend goes on.
You will hear her riding just before dawn.
She so loved her cowboy and she's true to her course,
As you see her ride by on her ghostly white horse.
He had rode rode off into the sunset taken by force,
With his hands tied behind him on his big black horse.
He had wanted to ask his love to become his wife,
But now those strangers planned to take his life.
For many days they rode and he was thrown into a dark pen.
Surely his life will now come to an end.
Many years had passed and one fateful day,
The door was left open and he just ran away.
He found his black horse a swayback by now,
But he hurried to marry his love without fail.
Only to find she was heartbroken and died.
For the first time in years he hung his head and cried.
More years has passed and the legend goes on,
You'll hear the cowboy crying just before dawn.
Crying for a love that never took it's course,
As he rides at midnight on his big black horse.
He rode at midnight his love he longed to see,
But somehow their meeting was not to be.
She rode her white horse just before dawn,
Their passing each other seemed to go on.
As he rode each night his tears they did flow,
But his longing to see her he would not let go.
One midnight riding he gave a loud groan,
His horse stood still, a ghostly shoe it had thrown.
He got off his horse and searched all around,
But that ill fated shoe , it could not be found.
Just before dawn he heard a galloping steed,
Oh could it be her?, Oh he hoped it would be.
As she slid to the ground into his arms she ran,
She finally had found her wandering man.
As the years go by the legend it grows,
Is this story real? Nobody knows.
This story may be sad and it may make you blue,
But even after death their love remained true.
Now before dawn as you hear them ride by,
You'll hear their laughter as their love will not die.
