Bridge BASE jumping fun - Video

Ok so my little video edit of last weekends fun at the bridge is up!

I went on my own as my jump buddy had to bail at the last minute, but I met other jumpers and made new friends to jump with.

I shared an apartment with 2 Polish guys on the first night, then I had to share a room with an Icelandic Viking on the 2nd and 3rd nights, who spoke good English and was a cool guy.

The place we stay when jumping from this AWESOME structure gets very busy with BASE jumpers, so you do end up having to share your room sometimes. This is ok, provided you don't get lumped with a snorer! On this trip I was lucky, it was all was good.

What I love about the bridge is it brings so many different people together.

I met Russians, Austrians, Polish, Germans, Slovenians, Swiss, Hungarian and other English jumpers on this trip.

Although the Russians tend to keep themselves to themselves, everyone is always friendly and fun to jump with.

I planned to go 'stowed' for the first time on this trip but I bottled it. It was keeping me up at night thinking about it, its only 4 seconds until impact from when you exit the bridge, so you have very little time to correct a miss pull. I decided that the reward was not worth the risk, so continued to go Handheld and have a little fun with a reverse PCA.

It was also too windy to try a McConkey (rollover). Next time I'll see how I feel about going stowed and hopefully there will be a nil wind day for McConkeys :-)

For the record I have 50 BASE jumps.

I state this so that any BASE jumping students can see that at 50 BASE jumps, I personally am still not ready to go stowed off a sub terminal object, and it's OK!!

Going stowed looks cool, but is it worth dying for? I am alive because I make good decisions, and choosing to leave stowed jumps for another day was a sensible choice and I don't regret it.
