Scotland has sunshine too - occasionally!steemCreated with Sketch.

Once again I fear we're coming to the end of a VERY short-lived spell of 'summer' weather here in Scotland. With our weather rarely reliable we have to make the most of whatever sunshine we get so last week my family and I made a little impromptu visit to Ayr beach.

Situated on the south-west coast of Scotland, Ayr beach is only about an hour from where I live so perfect for a family day trip.

We built sandcastles, paddled in the sea (the water was surprisingly warm for a change) and had a picnic before getting a cheeky ice cream!

The kids had an amazing time and was great to see them playing on the sand so happy and carefree - that was until we buried them. They were however quite happy to stay in the sand for a good 10 minutes and even completely relaxed and finished their juice in there!

I love the beach and ideally would like to live closer to the coast. There's something about the the texture of the sand or that fresh, salty sea air that just puts the rest of your life into perspective.

Maybe one day :)

Haha that is a great way to make sure your kids are exactly where you left them :D

Exactly! They do like to run wild....you need eyes in the back of your head!

Looks pretty cool. I think we're coming over in around September 2018 so you'll have to post some hints on where to go etc. We're pretty excited. Will probably go to Finland to see my bro for a week and then spend about 3 weeks in Scotland. Not long enough probably but we hope to see some cool stuff. I think we'll have about 6-6 weeks all up so we should have the time to hang around and really "see" and experience the places we go.

Oh wow that's going to be an amazing trip for you! I'll have to make a top 10 scottish places to visit post. You should manage to get through a good few Scottish gems in 3 weeks :)

I'll have some questions for you but a top 10 would be awesome. We are doing some planning later tonight. We'll have a hire car I guess and would prefer to B&B rather than big hotels. we want to "get local" although I think we'll have trouble understanding the lingo. :)
