Beautiful Sunday and Sublime Sunday - Traditional Bangkok Wooden Houses !!

in #beautifulsunday6 years ago (edited)

There is one thing that i enjoy immensely about living in Bangkok and that is when i wonder of for a walk i never plan or known where i am going to end up today for my Sunday walk i decided to wonder of into the old suburban local areas of Bangkok through all them little ally ways, you don't know where they are going to lead you if it's going to be a dead-end ally or just going to wind around into another tiny ally all makes it so interesting.

What mostly intrigues me amongst other things of course is admiring these old wooden houses as i am walking through these little ally ways can't help wondering about the history behind these magnificent old wooden houses. Some are so run down that it surprises me how people are able to still live in them but of course it's a family generation thing that keeps them hanging on to them and supposedly they wouldn't have the monies to restore them so they have no choice but to live in them the best way they can.

It's hard to imagine that this house and like many others are right in heart of Bangkok city with all its condominiums, supermarkets and office blocks surrounding around these old wooden houses.

Often many relatives are found living under one roof. Old parents don't go to retirement houses they stay with their children and Grandchildren.

Each of these wooden houses have their own distinct characteristics and designs based on the region's history and culture.

Caught these two ladies hard at work cutting down a tree and cleaning up the scrub trying to keep the old wooden house safe from snakes and over growth.

In Thailand, many of these old wooden houses have two floors. The bottom floor is usually work area to sell some goods it could be food or clothing whatever might make some money for them and top floor is the living quarters.

This is Electric Fan repair and Electric Fan spare parts shop under an old wooden house which is the next biggest business apart from air conditioner's. I hope he knows were all his parts are and were they are ...lol :)

*Sorry to spoil the the B&W viewing ...But their is so much beautiful color in this Fan shop i had to show this photo in color...!!

I actually really enjoy looking and photographing older Thai wooden house but unfortunately they are fast disappearing in Bangkok because of the growing demand for land to build high rises and also sadly even disappearing in the provinces, their popularity is fading in favor of modern concrete houses. I do hope that the few remain and are preserved they are so precious and hold so much history and memories.

Fabulous photos. They are perfect in black and white and really capture all the history. It is difficult to imagine that this is in the midst of the modern city that you often show us photos of. I am so glad that showed the color version of the fan shop. In with the B&W photos it really shows off all those marvelous colors!

Thank you my friend it is nice to see how the other half live and honestly they all live in harmony and they make you feel so welcome when your walking through there area :)

I am pretty certain that it is your smile that makes them want to welcome you.

Awwwww....Thank you a smile does go a long way :)

That looks so not right but they do it herein Thailand also i think because it's cheaper and a traditional thing :)

I'm not sure if the one in Singapore is legal. :-)

I don't think they would care about council restrictions over there like here ....lol :)

How different the city can be and at the same time it is so natural.
I like your choice of black and white, but the fans needed to be shown in colour :-)

Amazing how it is divided like that but everyone lives in harmony :)

Yeah i had to show the fans in color also just to many pretty colors there to see :)

This looks more natural than a skyscraper. Well done with the photography

Thank you @hananali this is the real living of the middle and lower class but they all get on well :)

And the thing that matters is that they all somehow manage to keep themselves happy

This is true happier then some millionaires i know as they say money can not buy happiness :)

True, money can buy anything but true happiness. That comes from within

Most definitely comes within :)

That's good

The black and white gives more of and effect of hardship.

Your are so right about that :)

Thank you my friend :)

I do love these fabulous photos! the monochrome is perfect for this walk through the alley. It is a shame that they are disappearing from the landscape. It is part of how Thailand was built and even though modern buildings are the hot item now, I can assure you as time goes by, people will want to bring back the charm of the old times.

Okay! Perhaps we all have different ideas of charm, but, I find these buildings mildly calming. Just walking through and seeing the people as they live and work. That is the way it used to be in the United States long ago. Well, in the last generation at least. In the town I grew up in Connecticut, the downtown buildings had businesses on the bottom and living quarters up top. It was not uncommon, but, transitioned over to apartments on top when I was growing up.

Thanks for showing off the fan shop and the true colors! That was pretty awesome and that shot was fabulous!

Yeah i do love it myself and it has got a lot of charm like you said and i do believe they will be around for awhile yet there are suburbs that will just never get pull down for high risers because the governments here do like to keep that part of Thailand alive and to many people to move and find replacement homes :)

Yeah i loved the colors in that fan shop was awesome :)

That is true! The government would have to move them to the nice section of town and we can't have any of that! (that was sarcasm!)

So we keep that kind of housing to put them someplace. OMG Right???
