Happy and healthy new year to you all.
The New Year is a special time for families and friends to come together. This year, we celebrated with two favorite treats: sweet desserts and a traditional rice cake. The house was filled with laughter, warm wishes, and the sweet aroma of fresh pastries.
First, we prepared a small table of Bengali Narkel Naru. There were honey‑glazed donuts, soft sugar cookies, and bright orange tangerines.
Children reached for the candy, and adults enjoyed a cup of tea with a piece of cake. The simple joy of sharing sweets made everyone feel happy and relaxed.
The star of the celebration was the rice cake, known in many cultures as “tteok” or “kakan‑puri.” We steamed the sticky rice, shaped it into round discs, and brushed the tops with a light honey glaze.
The rice cake is soft, slightly sweet, and a symbol of good luck and prosperity for the coming year. We cut it into wedges and offered a piece to each guest, wishing them health and happiness.
As the clock struck midnight, we raised our glasses, thanked the past year, and welcomed the new one with these delicious treats. The simple act of eating together reminded us that love, family, and sweet moments are the true gifts of any celebration.
