Managing Spittlebugs in Our Lawn | 10 % for beautycreativity
Hello friends,
If you’ve noticed frothy, white masses on your lawn’s grass blades or ornamental plants, you may be dealing with spittlebugs—not “pointing bugs,” as they’re sometimes mistakenly called.
These insects are the nymph stage of a harmless, sap-feeding species that thrives in moist, shady areas of lawns, gardens, and ornamental shrubs.

Spittlebugs are most active in spring and summer. The nymphs create their signature foamy “homes” by mixing saliva with water, which protects them from predators and drying out.
While the sight of these bubbles may look alarming, spittlebugs rarely cause significant damage. They siphon small amounts of plant sap, which can stress plants if populations are extremely high, but typical infestations pose little threat.

To manage spittlebugs naturally, rinse the frothy masses off with garden hose water. This disorients the nymphs and exposes them to predators like birds and ladybugs.
Avoid over-fertilizing, as excess nitrogen can attract more spittlebugs. In severe cases, a mild insecticidal soap may be applied, but pesticides are usually unnecessary. 🌿✨
