Last Saturday I set out for Riverside, a hidden gem along the city’s winding waterway, hoping to discover the wild blooms that locals whisper about each spring.

The walk began at the old stone bridge, where the river’s gentle murmur mingles with the scent of damp earth. A narrow footpath, flanked by silver‑leaf willows, led me into a meadow that opens like a painted canvas.

First, I spotted a cluster of delicate bluebells swaying in the breeze, their bells chiming with the soft splash of water. Not far behind, bright orange poppies dotted the grass, standing out against the deep green of fern fronds.

The highlight, however, was the rare pink‑tipped riverbell (Campanula riparia) that clings to the riverbank’s rocky edges—its petals sparkling with dew like tiny lanterns.

While cataloguing each find, I chatted with a friendly park ranger who explained how the seasonal flood brings fresh silt, creating perfect conditions for these flowers to flourish.

By late afternoon, the sun painted the sky in amber, and the meadow glowed with color.

I left Riverside feeling refreshed, carrying a pocket‑size sketch of the riverbell and a promise to return next year for the next floral showcase and sharing the memory with friends.
