Cameroon was the first African national football team to make it to the quarter finals in the World Cup in 1990

Having surpassed Nigeria and Tunisia, Cameroon had qualified for the FIFA 1990 World Cup. In the final tournament, Cameroon would play with Argentina, Romania and the Soviet Union in Group B. Cameroon won the defending champion Argentina 1-0. Cameroon also won Romania 2-1 but lost to the Soviet Union 0-4. Next, Cameroon won Colombia 2-1 and the star of the team, Roger Milla, 38, scored two goals in the extra time. In the quarter finals, England defeated Cameroon 3-2. Cameroon's final position in the World Cup was seventh.
This occurred to me because @leggy23 is from Cameroon, because I remember watching Cameroon's games on television, and because Roger Milla who played exceptionally well particularly for a veteran player aged 38 is a partial namesake of my daughter's whose first name is Milla. :) Team Cameroon played an interesting kind of football that was pleasant to watch for the non-technical spectator unlike the methodical and defense oriented play of teams like Germany. Cameroon was coached by the Russian coach Valery Nepomnyashchy. Funnily, his surname means "one-who-does-not-remember". I'm sure Mr. Nepomnyashchy will remember coaching the Cameroonians and the tournament as long as he is alive and well.
Yeah it was a legendary camerounian team. Senegal and Ghana have also done the same. I wonder when an African country is going to win the world cup.

In that year I was just 16 years old, I was about to graduate from high school, "Bachiller" but I remember that cup of the world very well, here in Venezuela we support Cameroon a lot because of its way of playing that surprised everyone in the world all when I beat Argentina. really that those games were very good

Thanks for writing about my country and Roger Miller. He made us so proud. I remember when I was maybe 5 years old and everyone was into the World Cup. It was such a big deal to everyone during that period.

Cameroonians are good with soccer. Their jersey is made in such a way that it fits their body and can easily intimidate any team. I dont know if their past performances are still their present performance and will be their future performances.
