Behind the Mystery Door

in #behindmysterydoor7 years ago (edited)

This is my entry to the Behind the mystery door contest organized by @onceuponatime. English is not my first language, so I apologize in advance if you will find here (and I bet you will) any mistakes 😊

That door seems to be antient, little dusty and maybe lonely. Suddenly you feel sad. Not opening them might seemed like an option just a minute ago but both you and I know that it is not. You just must know what lies behind it.

So, you decide to open it. You hold your breath. You are anxious and exited at the same time. Behind that door is a big but rather old TV. I know, boring. But wait. This TV is not ordinary. When you turn it on there is a sign: Please write a name and a surname and think about that person (you can write your own name or anybody else’s name). At first you do not know what to expect. You have no idea if writing your name will kill you or what will happen. Is some Djinn going to reveal himself and grant you 3 wishes? Or is this some death game?

So, you risk it. That is what life is about, is not it? Risking. Adventure. Slowly you write your own name. The screen flushes and changes. Suddenly you see years – starting with the date of your birth and continuing to the future. You choose one year in the past. Then month and then you choose day. Choosing hour is optional.

The screen flushes again. There is another sign. Well, actually it is a question.
Do you want to be just an observer?
Not knowing what it exactly means you choose YES.

The screen flushes again. There is this white light. Suddenly your head is spinning and for a moment you feel noxious. Then everything is black.

When you open your eyes again, you find yourself back in your body. Your younger body. It is still you, but the younger version. You can feel what he feels, and you can experience it again. You cannot move, just observe. Because you chose to be just an observer, remember?

If you would pick the other option, you would be able to move his body. You would be him for the next 24 hours. You could live the exact same day as you have already lived, or you could try something different. No matter what will you do it will not change the future. So, that sounds like fun, does not it? You would be able to find out what would happen if your decisions would be different. But you do not have to change a thing. You can be an innocent kid again or a hormonal teenager.

When then 24 hours is over, and you are back in front of the TV, there is a sign: Please write a name and a surname….

You can write anybody in this word, living or death, and live his life for 24 hours. Or just observe with his/her own eyes and feel what he or she felt.

Even if you feel like you have been almost everywhere and experienced anything, just image what it would be like to see it from another person’s perspective. Experience his/her emotions. Joy or sadness. Maybe you would be surprised how different people's emotions can be. Or you would not be surprised at all.
That is for you to find out 😊

This magical TV is right in front of you, so do not hesitate to use it 😉

Hi @sili you are great teller. Creepy!

Thank you very much @hairyfairy :)

I am honored to have your entry in my contest!

Your story reminds me a little of the novel by P. Ouspensky called The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin.

Thank you very much :)
I have not read that. But I will try to find it somewhere and check it. Thanks for the recommendation :)
