Rehoboam in the Bible: My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. 2 Chronicles 10:14

Rehoboam succeeded his father Solomon, but was not proclaimed king of all Israel like his ancestor because of his lack of wisdom in speaking. The example of Rehoboam in the Second Book of Chronicles is an example of how pride, passions such as hatred and envy, and selfishness only lead to chaos and destruction. The assembly at Shechem, where the confrontation between Rehoboam and the people of Israel took place, serves as a reminder of a very important lesson of wisdom: "In an assembly of sinners a fire will be kindled" Ben Sira 16:6.
In the science of wisdom are the balance and the consensus, but the fools reject these things; Rehoboam disregarded the political experience of his father's advisors and allowed himself to be swayed by the opinions of his friends from his youth.
The Israelites asked Rehoboam to ease their burden, probably referring to the excessive taxes King Solomon had levied on them for the construction of the first temple of Jerusalem, and Rehoboam asked for three days to formulate a response. And after three days, this was Rehoboam's reply: "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions" 2 Chronicles 10:14.
Rehoboam's lack of wisdom, according to the Bible, caused a political schism from which the twelve tribes could never recover; from that moment on, the histories of Judah and Israel were definitively separated. The kingdom of Israel was ruled by Jeroboam and survived until it was destroyed by the Assyrian empire, and the kingdom of Judah lasted a while longer until it fell to the Babylonian empire.
Those who wish to live in peace and receive God's true blessings must always live in the fear of God and seek wisdom above all things, and those who do not can only lead an uncertain life plagued by destructive unforeseen events, and this is what happened to Rehoboam, his life only brought trouble and suffering to his kingdom. Words spoken at the wrong time were the end of many lives dedicated to building Israel, sometimes a small evil can destroy a great good, this truth is perhaps the final spiritual reflection left by the assembly of Shechem and its schism.
