Save our environment, save us!

Polyethene, a value- added product is one of the synthetic products of the polymerization of ethene, a petrochemical fraction with the chemical formula (CH2-CH2-CH2)n. It burns with luminous intensity because of its high carbon content. Over the years, chemists were confronted with man's unquenchable thirst for convenience but as a way of salvaging the situation, polymerization of ethene was the only hope. At the end, a simplified and secured packaging material (polyethene bags) was produced synthetically.

There are many of them but the most common types are; low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE), the former is prevalently used for packaging food stuff.

In recent times, non-properly disposal of these products after use now constitutes a greater percentage of the total environmental pollution. Polyethene bags of trouble so-called, is an example of non-biodegrade pollution and they posed a greater threat to our health years after years. The increasing pollution problem is more a result of sloppy management of garbage removal and these harmful effects of polyethene bags kill animals and pollute our environment.

This product is not attacked by acids and that is why it can serve as a suitable container. Good enough, it is combustible and recycliable. As for me, mine is to recycle and say "no" to polyethene pollution because it is an epidemic now and either recycling or combustion is the best possible solution.

Amidst all, the recreative power of the chemical scientists has come to save us but we are still battling ignorance and mere freedom in a way of deliberately increasing the pollution rate geometrically.
Kashmir had banned the sale and use of non-biodegradable polyethene bags because of the presence biopolymers for renewable sources. It is a reality and as well as to save their environment.
You and I can save our environment from messy state simply by knowing that polyethene bags are not biodegradable like other food garbages in our environment. Just look around you and see stuffy drainages, at the dump sites, road sides and almost everywhere. Nevertheless, good measure can see us through from miasmatic state of our environs.

Tips for a safer environment.

• Sensitization of the types of waste and their appropriate disposal pattern.

• Recycling of polyethene bags or burning them.

• Environmentalists making sure environmental defaulters are heavily penalized. Legalizing the act of proper disposal waste products.

• Government's utmost intervention by making sure that defaulters are called to order.

In conclusion, use polyethene today, burn polythene today and our environment will remain habitable. Keep your environment and your environment will keep you.
