MY DISCOVERY OF A BIRD NEVER SEEN BEFORE!

in #birding4 years ago

While on vacation here in Florida, we have spent a couple of days here and a couple of days there, but for the last 12 days we have stayed put. The house on the lake in Fort Meyers where we are currently staying, has so much to offer. We are just miles from some of the most beautiful beaches in all 50 states, and if you are a bird lover, it's like you're in BIRD PARADISE, as soon as you step out our back door.

This guy is the Wood Stork
Mycteria americana.
A few of them are regular visitors to the pond.
I hope to do an exclusive on this magnificent bird.
I think I have some beautiful photos of some Wood Storks, but I'm still waiting to snap a picture of one of them in flight.

This guy is the Great Egret,
Ardea alba.
These birds also frequent the body of water behind our house.

Being from the north, many of the birds I see are uncommon to me. I look at all of the different types of birds and marvel at their beauty. Each bird unique in its looks, mannerisms, eating habits and in their ability to grace the sky while in flight.

Well, this is when bird watching really gets exciting. Some times you will be able to spot a very rare bird, and with a lot of luck you will be able to snap some pics of them.

Without the picture, others may question the validity of your story, but with a photo, there will be no denying your sighting.

This blog is not about a sighting of a rare bird, but rather a blog about a sighting of a brand new species of bird. At this point some of you bird experts out there may be thinking, #thebigsweed has been smoking too much of that wacky weed, not me and here are some pictures to prove it.

Here are the two birds that I mentioned earlier in the blog, the Wood Stork and the Great Egret.
To me, they are looking as though they are contemplating getting together, you know romantically.

They understand the ramifications that would come along with not marrying one of their own, but they don't give a duck.

They've been in love since they were hatch-lings, and have wanted some webbed feet pattering around the nest for a while now.

The following picture is proof that even without genetic engineering the unimaginable can happen.
Impossible you say, check this out!

All along I thought The Wood Stork and the Great Egret were just courting each other.
Well after this little guy appeared, I knew their courtship had turned more serious.
I wonder if the parents of the newly weds have come to terms with the fact that blood lines have been crossed.

This new breed of bird needs no one to watch its back, and two heads are always better than one.

The fact is, I'm the first to discover this new breed of bird, so I get the honor on naming this new species.
After much thought I came up with the name, The Great Woody.
I don't care if you like the name, I'm the guy who discovered the dam thing.

I almost feel like Juan Ponce de León, or do you think the Florida heat is getting to me?

Hahah I like the name and have seen a great woody from time to time. I don’t give a suck who knows either!
