Yellow-headed Amazon Parrot at the Calgary Zoo

This parrot is part of an endangered species, having lost about 90% of its native range in Central America and Mexico. They say that escaped cage birds have established several feral flocks around Los Angeles, San Diego, and also Southern Florida. They like forests and woodlands as habitats. In captivity they are among the types of parrots that can mimic human speech and also be taught to vocalize it. It is considered second to the African Gray Parrot in its abilities to do this.
