The black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)
Very large and noisy woodpeckers. They often scream so as not to lose each other, or vice versa to find. They have a catchy loud voice that is very unlike the voices of other woodpeckers.
You can easily recognize the traces of this woodpecker from mutilated trees. They are like gutters, remove the bark from the trees and leave behind themselves large wood chips under them. And unlike their smaller fellow woodpeckers, they carefully examine each tree.
They have a long neck, bright eyes and a stylish black and red plumage.
I photographed this couple in the winter of 2017. Making my way through the deep snowdrifts on the hill, I thought I would scare them away, but no. They calmly examined one tree from two sides and did not pay attention to the frozen swearing man with a large camera.
