If you have seen their work on the AI Sophia, you already know what Dr. Ben Goertzel and his colleagues are capable of. They are starting a platform that will offer decentralized AI as a service. Compared to other blockchain AI projects, SingularityNET seems to be the most general-purpose model, which also makes it the most likely to lead to both AGI and exponential growth. I believe this currency will hold great value in the future, allowing access to all kinds of superhuman services. The initial alpha version is on Ethereum but they plan to switch to something faster and lighter-weight before the scaleable full product deployment. Dr. Ben has stated that the software architecture cleanly separates the blockchain layer from the AI-API layer, and the smart contracts could all easily be ported to a different blockchain.

SingularityNET is working with a top of the line law team on the best avenues to launch the token, but will not disclose much at this point to avoid future legal issues. From what I have gathered, they are going to use Opencog as the abstract cognitive hub/core of the protocol and SingularityNET as the connection to the hub while also supporting multiple other facets. They are also currently considering partnerships in the areas where their team is lacking (for example help with their smart contract applications via Ocean), which is in my opinion a sign of maturity via the willingness to shell out resources to harness better development. I think the main drawback here is potential regulation, assuming governments are proactive rather than reactive, and getting other AI projects to cooperate. And then, of course, there is always the potential for Skynet to become realized. Either way, this progress is going to be pushed forward by someone, and thus is unavoidable unless there is some kind of massive catastrophic event. That being said, if there's anyone I trust on this planet to handle AGI, it's Dr. Ben.
