MonteCrypto - The Bitcoin Enigma
There's been a bit of a buzz about a new game that will be launching on steam on 2/20.
The prize is 1 BTC worth roughly $10.8k presently, potentially worth more by the time the 24 puzzles are solved.
It's gained some major news coverage, even though the developers are anonymous at this time.
I may play a bit just to see how it goes, though I'm under no illusion that I'll win. If you want to track my progress, follow me on Twitter.
My Game Plan Prior to Launch:
Stay updated on what others are posting about it on various sites.
Follow down the leads I have.
Work on tracking down the developers.
Research the two clues I have found.
Form a team of people with useful skills.
Set up a chat group on discord.
My Game Plan at Launch:
Purchase game ASAP.
Install.
Inspect code for a wallet.dat file.
Begin playing game.
Thoughts So Far:
The game has 24 puzzles to solve and the recover phrase has 24 words. This may mean I'm looking for a word in each puzzle.
The clues I've found so far point to an Eastern European and Middle Eastern influence.
Concerns
Risk: Like any download, there is risk associated with downloading MonteCrypto to your computer or to a computer on your network. This is increased because the developers are anonymous.
Mitigation: I'll be using a pc I don't trade on and make sure the ones I do trade on aren't connected to same network.
Risk: Could be an elaborate way for the developers to mine crypto
Mitgation: Unnecessary.
Risk: Bitcoin isn't really up for grabs.
Mitigation: Irrelevant - I think it will be interesting, I'm not pursuing this for the Bitcoin.
