FBI Says Hackers Managed to Extort $28 Million in Cryptocurrencies – In the annual report of 2016 just released, the following was noted:-
– Over 17,146 individual cases of extortion were recorded
– Online crimes include DDoS attacks
– Reported online crimes rose 3.7% in 2016 with most affected countries being the US, Canada, India, UK, Australia, and France
– People above 60 suffered most and lost over $339 million

The FBI suspected that only 15% of victims actually report their situation.
