I am looking forward to the day when CME's bitcoin futures contract trades on a blockchain, but not the bitcoin blockchain. If you are buying bitcoin futures from JPMorgan it is because you want exposure to bitcoin. If you are buying bitcoin futures, it is probably because you think that bitcoin will go up. My questions are: Will the customers who lose money on bitcoin futures sue JPMorgan for letting them buy them? But of course these blockchains are not the bitcoin blockchain; they are private blockchains that only approved banks and institutions can use and that have trusted central administrators. Billionaire and ex-fund manager Mike Novogratz has restated his belief that bitcoin will end the year at $10,000, adding that ethereum could close at $500. Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency by market value, will also reach a new high soon of "close to $500." Breaking: Paris Asset Manager Starts Bitcoin Mutual Fund
The French asset management company TOBAM, with $9 bln under management, has officially announced the creation of the first Bitcoin mutual fund. The goal is for institutional investors to gain access to the cryptocurrency. The company has created the fund as an unregulated alternative investment in order to provide a vehicle for allowing more regulated investors at the institutional level to gain Bitcoin exposure without the regulatory concerns. At press time, Bitcoin was trading at $8,301, just off those highs. The announcement by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) for the provision of Bitcoin futures, as well as other firms, has propelled the cryptocurrency to new all-time highs over $8,400. Philippine regulators are considering new rules for cryptocurrency exchanges and initial coin offerings (ICOs), according to officials. Recognizing the growing popularity of the blockchain funding use case, he said regulators were eyeing new rules to protect consumers. The change could see other cryptocurrency exchanges being allowed to function as money changers, central bank Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. said yesterday, according to the news source. A $9 billion French asset manager is launching Europe's first bitcoin mutual fund
LONDON — French asset management firm Tobam is planning to launch Europe's first bitcoin mutual fund as interest in the cryptocurrency continues to grow. Tobam's fund will be open to institutional investors and qualified investors on a private placement basis. Tobam, which had $9 billion in assets under management as of September, plans to launch an unregulated alternative investment fund that will allow institutional investors to gain exposure to bitcoin. Investor interest has risen alongside the price, with over 55 dedicated cryptocurrency hedge funds now in existence and exchange giant CME Group announcing plans to launch bitcoin futures contracts. Survey: CFOs Think Bitcoin Is 'Real' But Are Divided on Price
Roughly 21% of American CFOs think bitcoin is in a bubble, compared to about 29% in the Asia-Pacific area. In that survey, 39% of respondents think bitcoin is in a bubble, with a further 27% saying its price increase would slow down. Chief financial officers (CFOs) around the world seem to distrust bitcoin, according to a CNBC survey published Tuesday. More CFOs in Europe, the Middle East and Africa think bitcoin is in a bubble than in the United States or the Asia-Pacific regions, according to the survey.
