Bitcoin is not a coin

The bitcoin currency is best described by what it is not. Bitcoin is not a coin. It does not exist in physical form. It’s a digital currency with military grade encryption. It exists only in digital form.

The trouble with making sense of bitcoin is that our knowledge of fiat currencies gets in the way of understanding bitcoin. You may have seen pictures of bitcoin like the one above but the bitcoin physical coin does not exist.

Some people make them and sell them online but they’re just for display.
