Gizmodo writer blames Bitcoin for Global Warming
Matt Novak, a writer for Gizmodo, wrote a short piece decrying the recent surge in Bitcoin. According to Novak, all the smart people cashed out about a year ago, and now it's just the simple folk who are still clinging to something “as practical to use in the real world as Monopoly bills”.
How something that is worth around $5,000+ a coin, at the time of the article, is “absolutely worthless by any real measure”, is never actually explained however. But Novak does go out of his way to not only contradict himself in a single sentence, but to tell us how he believes Bitcoin will bring about the Apocalypse:
“Bitcoin is backed by nothing and requires tremendous amounts of energy to mine using computers. As it becomes more difficult to mine, it saps more and more energy, causing millions of tons of carbon dioxide to be pumped into the atmosphere and accelerating climate change. Bitcoin is little more than a speculator’s death cult at this point.”
After fantasizing about Earth's death, princess Novak then decided to spent the rest of his night arguing with what he considers "the average folk":
