HBO will be paying $250,000 worth of BITCOIN to Hackers for extension of deadline

As we all know, unknown hackers were able to get advance copies of the remaining Season 7 episodes of HBO's most famous show, Game of Thrones. It was reported that the hackers are demanding a huge amount of money, roughly $6 million amount of Bitcoin, to stop leaking the latest episodes online.

For HBO, this is a risky decision since Game of Thrones is indeed their highest rating and commercially successful series to date. Hence, leaking the latest episodes online would greatly affect their operations, financially. However, the deadline set by the hackers for the ransom is already near and HBO offered to give $250,000 worth of Bitcoin to extend the ransom time by another week. This move entails that HBO is really looking ways to settle the hacker's demand and may possibly offer to them the requested ransom in case no other solutions will be found at the soonest possible time.

One thing that we can derive from this incident is that Bitcoin is somehow used illegally and gives the hackers a benefit of the doubt knowing that they cant be identified if the ransom was paid through Bitcoin. More or less, this also suggests that Bitcoins, or any other cryptocurrencies rather, are now gaining momentum in terms of usability and market potential.
