@Bitcoin account suspended on Twitter

The @Bitcoin account has been suspended on Twitter.

On first glance this might sound like it has something to do with Twitter's ban of ICOs and bitcoin advertising...

However, in reality it has nothing to do with either.

False and Deceptive promotion?

The @bitcoin account was either purchased or acquired some time back by major BCH supporters.

Since that time the @bitcoin account has been used on a daily basis to promote BCH while at the same time "bashing" the original BTC.

Promoting BCH isn't that bad, and neither is bashing BTC (if that is what they really believe), the problem is that they have been doing so from the official @bitcoin account.

Had they been using the @bitcoincash account, no problems.

They know the @bitcoin account has much further reach, hence why they have been using it in the first place.

Some other possible issues.

There are several notable names behind BCH, and they have gone out of their way to put down the original BTC any way they can to help promote their BCH.

That also likely flies in the face of what regulators want to see as well.

They have no problem with decentralized payment systems, but ones that look more like a pyramid scheme with very centralized ownership, those tend to get looked at a little more closely.

Not saying that BCH fits that bill, because it doesn't, but the main backers of BCH have gone out of their way to promote "their coin" using misleading tactics, including the use of the @bitcoin name on Twitter.

What happens from here?

All that being said, this isn't the first time the @bitcoin account has been suspended on Twitter.

And, it will likely be back up and running again in the near future, if the last time was any indication.

Though, hopefully the account either goes away or eventually gets owned by someone offering news related to the original BTC, since that is what the name of the account suggests.

If people want to promote BCH, that is fine, just do it from the BCH account.

Stay informed my friends.

hmmm this can be interpreted bad by other investors... hopefully twitter will give some explanation!

Yea I could see that, though it likely has nothing to do with bitcoin itself.

Also the whole "Bitcoin Cash is the real Bitcoin" campaign was legit fraud.

Hmmm, hmmm, and hmmm.

There will be a huge push towards things that are what they say they are in the future. False advertising will be heavily punished. I don't know if this is false or just sleazy advertising. But it is definitely not above board.

Agreed. It seems trustless systems are the way of the future.

If this is a false sort of advertising, then, good for them for suspending it. We don't need false ads in light of all the other shit we have to be concerned with.

if that account is suspended, does it make any difference to you or anyone's daily life?

It matters that BCH promoters will no longer be able to shill for BCH from a misleading account.

It seems like it would help if the BCH guys weren't able to spread misinformation via the literal "@bitcoin" account on Twitter. It would affect anybody's life if they care about bitcoin...

Nicely put.

Agreed. There are quite a few people in this world who care about that sort of thing now.

Words are weapons and each has a certain power behind it. They were clearly attacking the opposite camp in a public forum, which is scummy at best.

Nope even I'm a bitcoin holder, but still this kind of news will affect the value of bitcoin and hope not too much

So sorry to hear this, Hope it will return and we will find that no one is misusing it.

Well hope people do not get to misuse the issue and create a bad result out of the news !

While thanks for clearing it out @jrcornel

Don't think it has anything to do with bitcoin or BCH. Must be some other type of TOS breaking in play here.
