HTC EXODUS 1: Blockchain Smart Phone
HTC Exodus 1, a blockchain phone offering from one of the largest handset manufacturers. This phone is up for pre-order today and can only be purchased using Bitcoin and Ethereum. The phone is selling for $960.00 or equivalent to 0.15 BTC and 4.78 Eth at today's prices. The Exodus 1 is expected to ship in December of this year.
I think it is awesome that we are starting to see large companies embrace blockchain and cryptocurrencies. They can see the value in this space and are taking steps to get involved. To me, this is just further confirmation of what I already believe in. I know that companies as big as HTC aren't going to just take risks like this unless they have done their own research and believe in the technology as well.
Earlier this year Sirin Labs also announced a blockchain smartphone of their own called FINNEY. The Sirin Labs phone is expected to be released next month and will be running a proprietary OS, and use the native token SRN.
The HTC Exodus 1 has impressive specs, much of what you would expect from a flagship phone in the upper price range.
On top of bleeding edge specs, the Exodus 1 focuses on security and allowing users to hold their own private keys in a quarantined section of the phone's processor which will work separately from the processes of phones Android operating system. HTC has also developed a recovery method to help you get back your keys if your phone were to get lost or stolen. The "Social Key Recovery", is based upon having 3 to 5 of your friends download a special app that will algorithmically split your recovery key between them. With just a text to your friends, you can have your key pieced back together in the event that it goes missing. Hopefully, your friends don't turn on you and piece your key together amongst themselves! I'm sure there are safeguards against this. It's a neat idea though.
I happy to see more and more of this kind of stuff come out. Keeps me excited to be in the Cryptospace.
Wow this has me really excited, totally gonna get one!!! Resteemed!!!
Whats the point of a blockchain smartphone?

I think they are aiming for a more secure way to store crypto and hold your private keys on your phone. Kind of a middle ground between a risky software app and the inconvenience of a cold wallet. This being more secure than an app and more convenient than cold storage.
Ah. Very cool and that makes a lot of sense.
