Mark Cuban is not shy in his criticism of Bitcoin. The entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks has repeatedly talked about his dislike of the leading cryptocurrency.

Over the years, he has pointed out that gold is a much better option than Bitcoin, even though Bitcoin returns have far outpaced gold over the last decade.

Cuban must think that Bitcoin is a novelty item with no real future.

He was asked on a podcast how much Bitcoin he owns.

“We started to accept (bitcoin) on Mavericks. We did this originally four years ago and nobody bought anything, ”said Cuban. “We are now accepting Bitcoin. I think we won $ 130. This is all the Bitcoin I currently have. ”

There is no word if he has minority partner in on his Bitcoin holdings.

At least he puts his money where his mouth is. He does not pan the cryptocurreny while buying it in the background

He was also questioned as to what it would take for it to be more accepted as a form of payment.

"It would have to be easier to use," he replied. "It would have to be completely simple and understandable to everyone first, and then you could say that it is an alternative to gold as a store of value."

This is a point that he is accurate. Any new technology needs to move towards ease of use. If the masses cannot understand or learn it very quickly, it will not be utilized.

One of the biggest drawbacks to Bitcoin is how confusing it is. As a payment mechanism, the proof of work platform is simply inefficient when it comes to small payments. Even at a 10 minute transfer time, which is still better than banks, it is too long for merchants who get approval from the likes of Visa almost instantly.

Many are not speculating that Bitcoin's store of value will not hold up since the price collapsed along with the major markets. Gold, on the other hand, has held up as a hedge against economic crisis.

Is Cuban missing the boat on this one? He is a very intelligent individual who knows a lot about technology. Over the last few years, he did not waver in his view on Bitcoin. Perhaps he is awaiting the progress of development before he gives a full endorsement.

Either way, Bitcoin still dominates the cryptocurrency landscape. The "King of Crypt" still accounts for more than 60% of the total marketcap.
