I agree with you, blockchain technology will make exchanges more efficient. I'm pretty sure it will happen sooner or later.
That would be cool. But also, it will mean banks and governments will try to get complete control over it.
Banks may be but I don't think government will. Because that means they have to be transparent meaning not be able to steal and bribe.
Governments now have control over the money supply. This would change that. They are not going to take it laying down.
