Notaries vs Blockchain

Some (fortunately not all) notaries are openly arrayed against the use of the Blockchain and the benefits it can bring. Why? Perhaps you feel a threat to your own interests?
But do notaries have to fear the Blockchain or could they also have a powerful ally?
