Dether Update #3: From Dether for Shops Release to Personal App on Main Net

It’s been just two weeks since we released the Dether for Shops on Ethereum main net, and we’re already back to give you an update on what we’re working on at the moment, and what we hope to bring to you in the coming weeks.Since our last development update:
- we released a part one of our customer interviews (giving an inside look into what it’s really like to buy crypto across the globe)
- we announced that we are joining forces with Kleros for decentralized arbitration
- Hamid had the pleasure of participating in a live AMA with QUOINE Global Head of Operations, Seth Melamed doing a live demo of Dether’s upcoming personal app

1. News and Notes
You might have noticed some changes on the Dether website — that’s because we are in the process of getting a facelift! Dether will soon have a fresh, new look that better captures who we are, so stay tuned!
We are also happy to welcome Mehdi Amor to the Dether team!
Mehdi brings nearly a decade of legal and commercial expertise from a wide range of Industrial and infrastructure projects overlapping across multiple geographical markets. His global experience will help Dether serve it’s decentralized user base. He has a passion for transparency and creating sustainable business models. Welcome, Mehdi!
2. The Nitty Gritty
Dether for Shops: what we’ve learned
One of the challenges faced by our development team prior to the first release of Dether for Shops was that processing times were much faster on Kovan test net then on Ethereum main net. While everything ran smoothly and quickly on Kovan, there was more latency on main net. This led to a few minor changes prior to the release of Dether for shops, like readapting transaction management and error handling.Learning from this, the team is now testing the personal app on Ropsten, which more closely mimics main net in terms of latency. The team is continuing to think ahead in terms of wallet security and transaction management.In order to push the app to its maximum potential, we’ve launched a bug bounty program. This means that you can have the change to test the app, and be compensated for finding bugs, big or small.

Dether SDK
Our development team is actively working on an SDK that will allow everyone to easily interact with the Dether protocol. Improvements have already been made to the Dether JS library, which handles all of the Ethereum work, from wallet creation, to smart contract function with data formatting, thanks to ethers.js. A second version called Dether.web3 is almost finished as well. It will be lighter and will handle just the contract and data formatting work, but will require a web3 browser, such as MetaMask or Mist. These libraries will be released at same time as the personal app on main net, to help other Dapps implement and benefit from the Dether protocol.
3. On the Horizon
The next release will be the personal app version of Dether, which will allow anyone to locate shops accepting crypto around them.You can also look forward to posts about best practices for Dether shops, the Wyoming Utility Bill and why it’s good news for Dether, and feedback from the first shops listed on the Dether Map!
