"Light Account" is a dumb name

in #blockchain5 years ago

It's a GREAT idea, but the name doesn't work for me. Let's just call them what they are: "wallet addresses." Because that's what they are. They're just public keys, like a bitcoin wallet addresses, only it's on STEEM. I'm talking about how to describe them to non-STEEM experts. They don't care if named accounts also have wallets. They're not at that point. Once they build a nice balance and a good basis, then they might look into a named account.

These wallet addresses basically will look like this:

STM6qpwgqwzaF8E1GsKh28E8HVRzbBdewcimKzLmn1Rjgq7SQoNUa

You'll be able to just generate as many as you want. More importantly, you'll be able to use a paper wallet that exists entirely offline. The decision to speculate on STEEM all boils down to how complicated the process is to generate a new address. Apps like @roelandp's excellent iOS wallet could generate these addresses too. So there's the possibility of a whole range of key management solutions, from paper-only to Steem Keychain and everything in between.

There's a lot of people who speculate on an asset based solely on the ability to a) make a snap decision and b) get that asset off the exchange. Without the latter, they won't do the former. Which means for 3 years, STEEM has been a no-go for that specific segment of volume.

I like simply calling them wallet addresses. Avoids confusion.

Hi. Contestkings do good work. The idea came about while I was discussing the free-for-all/scammy nature of competitions/giveaways on the chain, with my mate, @o07.
He decided to set the standard and be a meeting place for those who want to run contests, and those who want to enter them; by only offering listings to contests which don't require upvotes, follows or resteems to enter.
I realise at first glance the contestkings posts might look like one of those automated aggregator spam jobs, but each post in the list is a contest who's author has requested inclusion, and the entire ecosystem has been brilliant for retaining newcomers and giving them some momentum.
Please reconsider your downvotes.

I'm only using my 10% Downvote rubric. Are you suggesting I use a stronger rubric?

I just wanted to make sure you understood the nature of the project. I believe it's adding value to the chain. If you're across what they do and disagree, obviously its your stake.

This looks like an underappreciated post.
Good stuff.

good point.

Less confusion, and more ways to store Steem.

True and with fast wallet creation it should work out :) But it should be easy to see for everyone "how to get one"and not like a secret option.

Only light account without any social interaction? I don't know how it helps to mass adoption. Still facebook and reddit has more advantageous.

Where does one get such a wallet?
