RE: Is Netflix About To Get Blockbusted By Singular DTV?

in #blockchain9 years ago

I was kind of thinking that lbry would be the one. There's no question that one will come along though. I remember forgetting to return a movie to blockbuster one summer and suddenly they wanted 60$, even though it was military deployment that sent me away. I never paid it (it was a 5 dollar title) out of principle and then suddenly they were gone. Served them right, I thought.

Sort:

how does lbry differ from Singular DTV? Do you think Singular is trying to do too many things, or are all those things necessary to make it work in fully functional way?

It sounds like they're both going for the decentralized gold, but right now I'm leaning toward your point and feeling like they're promising a lot with SingularDTV, though none of it seems impossible at all.

I haven't heard of lbry trying to make a whole studio and they're surely not creating a sci-fi show, but I believe they're looking at more than just televised entertainment. There's music and writing as well. Looking at it more, I don't see why these couldn't co-exist with not too much friction, kind of like how prime and netflix are competitors, but prime also offers music streaming (I don't know anyone who uses that service).

I cut the cable 10 years ago, and when the time comes I'll cut the non-existent internet waves that magically connect my television to netflix.

I have a Prime account, fwiw, and enjoy a music library with Amazon. There is enough Prime music available to listen to as you would a radio station sans commercials. I like that the songs & movies I buy occasionally there will, ostensibly, always be there for me. I can download songs to various devices and I am not trapped in Apple's ecosystem. I always hated when a favorite tape cassette would go missing or break. The inevitable loss from loaning out DVD's, not to mention carrying them around, storing, displaying, all of that just made digital content so much more appealing to me that I found the drawbacks worth it.
