Hard work paying off
This is my first post on Steemit.
Today, I wanted to talk about the concept of having personal goals. There is an inherent need to push ourselves towards a personal goal, to be driven and persistent. Even if we don't reach a specific part of our goal, we can still accomplish great feats and strive for our personal best. No matter what our goals are, we all strive for excellence and to raise our standards. We all want to achieve our personal best and be successful in whatever we do.
From the moment I was a senior in high school, I knew I wanted to work with music. I loved performing in all of the events at my school and even playing with other musicians around me. I didn't have an idea of what I wanted to be other than a successful professional musician, but I knew that there could be more I could do to expand my horizons and my skill set. Despite numerous people concerned about my life choice and the effect it would have on my financial stability, I knew it was what I wanted to do.
So, I did it. I put all of myself into studying music in college, switching programs a couple times after an extended break from college to focus more specifically on the goal of being a successful performing musician. I witnessed different success stories, including some that would make me envious. Ultimately, I had my own success even though it was not the same as that of my peers. I still felt myself measuring my success to that of other people. I even did this with regard to the overall success of my life. I needed to figure out what to do next and how to continue this success into the next stages of my life. I made several life choices with hopes of finding greater success overall, only to realize that I could share the love of knowledge I gained while studying music in college and even in high school.
After countless inspiring moments of acquiring wisdom while pursuing my craft, I had a break that was long enough to make me miss being in a community that was fertile for learning. I decided to end my post graduation break from school and become a substitute teacher. I knew this goal would be hard, but I took on the tasks of finding out what the requirements were, what it would financially take to get there, and how much effort I would have to put in to supervising my progress towards these goals. This included working two jobs, often in the same day while sleeping through the morning and afternoon. Additionally, I had to relocate and make a long two day trip from my parents' house.
Now, I finally hit a milestone in having my dream job. After years of playing with the idea of being an educator, I have finally reached the conclusion that I want to be a music teacher. Being a substitute and getting to have the frequent experience of teaching music programs has become so rewarding and inspiring. I watch students grow, make mistakes, hone their skills, and succeed in becoming well-rounded people. I love being a part of nourishing the bright minds of the future. Hopefully, I can not only reach my goal, but help others reach their goals by inspiring them.
