Less Than One - analysis
I stumbled upon a video by WongfuProductions *(definitely should check them out) where they featured a video called Less Than One. It really had an impact on me and so I wanted to analyze it a bit and explain to you my thoughts on it.
Here is the video:
Summary:
The video opens with a strong question that answers itself, well sort of.
"Do you believe in a soulmates?"
Throughout the video, the man who is answering his girlfriend tries to convey the idea that "soulmates" do not exist in a literal sense. He quantifies the idea of a soulmate by spewing out numbers, statistics, defining and in essences narrowing down what is a soulmate. And depending on various ingredients that you happened to require from your soulmate, you can come to the conclusion that maybe there are only 12 people who qualify as your "soulmate". In the case of the video, the various variables, and limitations, as well as personal standards that they were requiring from their ideal soulmate, lead them to the conclusion that the "one" or in this case a "soulmate" simply does not exist. You can't possibly date half of a person...(can you? I'm not entirely sure on that). And so really, the chances of a Soulmate is less than one.
What struck me about this video is that when we try to quantify something that is essentially unquantifiable, we come to a realization that our standards are too immense that it is unrealistic. We want this soulmate to be real, however, the chances of them even existing is less than one.
And I've been trying to understand as of lately, how can someone else find theirs but we are seemingly on an endless search? It feels like you almost hit the mark, but always fall short. It is like Goldilocks and the three bears, and we are trying to find the one that fits just right. And because of this, we are wandering aimlessly just to be wondering "when?"
It seems to me that the message of the video is that you shouldn't either give up or be impatient. Just gotta believe. You know? Because you shouldn't assume that they don't exist because you haven't felt it yet. Eventually, you will. You just gotta be patient. The idea of a soulmate do feel extremely difficult, but it is definitely not impossible. Even if your chances are less than one. Thank you for listening.
"Of these words, I've tried to recite
They are close but not quite
Almost impossible to do
Reciting the makings of you"

side note:
sorry about hiatus, I just wanted some time to think and figure out a better way to approach this whole blog thing. In case those who are reading that don't know, I typically write my blogs spontaneously, and most of the blogs I post are not premeditated. And because of this, it often comes out as blogs and/or thoughts that lack direction. I'd like to take my time with this now so that I can provide my content in a better way for you guys. That does mean I'll be posting less frequently though... we'll see the results.Anyways, Chao!
Anyways, Chao!
