Elon Musk advocates Direct Democracy

in #blog7 years ago

Direct Democracy is real democracy. Its the "will of the people" expressed directly in a referendum or ballot initiative. It should come as no surprise that thinking people are outspoken on this subject. Serial mega entrepreneur and visionary Elon Musk stated, "The form of government on Mars would be a direct democracy, not representative"

Civic tools must be upgraded to allow citizens to be accurately polled on pending legislative proposals. Inventor of the Web, Tim Berners Lee wants to see the web used as a tool for democracy . In his Ted talk ,"A magna carta for the web" he includes it as something he is still awaiting to manifest.

We can have direct democracy on earth before we make it to Mars. This inherent democratic human right is already embedded in the constitutions of many countries and is currently practiced in a variety of forms like referendums and ballot initiatives. Its only a matter of society being adequately informed on the subject.

Sort:

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think Musk understands the U.S. constitution well enough, this is certainly a good idea for other countries. The U.S. was built specifically to stop any chance of mob mentality. Many might find it interesting that many years ago you have to own land to vote. The idea behind this is that the poor will always exist and if they get to vote they will always vote to take from the "haves" and give to the "have not's". This societal truth is why democracies turn into socialist governments, then revolt and then back into Republics. Very interesting to watch this process that occurs in every country. The U.S. is actually now changing from a Republic to a Democracy; this is a long process, but once complete the transition from Democracy to Socialism will be very quick. The move from Socialism back to a Republic may never happen though, because the U.S. have such a strong military that could just used very effectively by a dictator/socialist leader.

Of course Elon doesnt understand. (lol) I have looked at the constitution and it describes the mechanics of the U.S. democracy. Voting for congress and senate is a democratic process and when they represent you in government they have a majority vote principal applied also. A mob is a bunch of angry democrats or antifa.. Real democracy is the will of the people whether you like it or not.. and p.s. you should like it because democracy and freedom go hand in hand and that is what our ancestors died for.

Your comment is amusing.. You imply that democracy is only for rich land owners and that poor people should have a no vote or lesser vote.. your perspective is laughable

It's not my perspective, it's the history of the U.S. the idea was those agreeing to taxes would be those actually impacted by taxes. Sort of defeats the purpose of freedom of at any given moment everything you worked for can be taken away by a group of people, simply because they out number you. There are counter arguments to this but it's not simply to say well that idea is dumb or mean.

There are protections against unconstitutional laws/policies being passed. YOur freedoms are based on what the majority have already agreed upon.. Democracy is rule of the majority.. There is no alternative except tyrannical rule. I bet you like that since you post no alternative. Either way denouncing democracy is the height of ignorance or elitism..

A republic and democracy are not the same thing, the constitution was meant to protect the individuality of the states from the democracy rule of a federal government. Simple put if this were a democracy, it would be more of a dictatorship, because NY and CA would rule all states. Not to get into a whole argument here, its just democracy is not liberty or freedom. In fact it's very far from it.

No argument just compare these 2 definitions.

I can't say it much better than this website does, https://wallbuilders.com/republic-v-democracy/
The idea of a Republic, particularly the U.S. Republic puts law and the constitution above men and was structured in such a way to create everlasting stability. A democracy put the power of law and the constitution in the hands of men, because of this there can never be stability or order. This always leads to collapse. Democracy sounds great, but it is not, men can be manipulated so easily. If anyone is scared of the rich now, just imagine what they could do if they started paying masses to vote a certain way. Or pushing billion dollar agendas to manipulate the vote. This happens now, but it doesn't work as well as it does in Europe, because we are a Republic.

The only difference between a democracy and republic is that a republic has a president. This is the real dictionary definition. Both a democracy and republic use the same process of majority rules. I can see the article is from anti democracy propagandists. I would challenge you to show me all the failed examples of referendums /initiatives or recall.
