I Do Not Support The Bill
Not a problem. I use the block very liberally. That's the most liberal part of my being.
I love blocking people. No worries. No worries.
Well, I just got the text that Bill sent over to me, George, and it does look terrible. Full disclosure, before this leak, and I told you this, I was very forthcoming with you, Walter, and I want to say this here. I don't know what's in there and what's not.
I haven't read the whole thing, but in essence, it's the dignity act on steroids. In a very early version of this bill, I was very involved in 2022, when I wasn't even in the House, working with Maria on some level of border security coupled with immigration reform that would essentially close the border, and we would compromise on DACA, meaning the DACA recipients would have a pathway through residency, not citizenship, residency, meaning a green card, because that's what you got to get before you get a passport, right? So I was very involved initially. Then when I got to Congress in 22, Tony Gonzalez pulled me into a room and then Maria, and we had plenty of good conversations because, look, it's a problem we have that needs to be solved, and I was very forthcoming and willing to negotiate and work on it.
I like immigration. It's a big issue for me, and I did engage. However, eventually the bill kind of went a little sideways, and immigration reform was all about it, it was all of it, and there was almost no border confessions in there, and that started to become an issue for me, and therefore I moved away from it.
And then Maria Salazar and Veronica Escobar from Texas, the Democrats, joined with Maria to make it bipartisan, and that's when I removed myself. So there might be remnants of my contributions in there, but I do not support the bill as an entirety, so I just wanted to make that very clear. Yeah, well, I'm looking it over now.
