[Blog] Visiting Greenfield Village with My Family
Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan
This year for Memorial Day, we drove down to Dearborn to spend the day at Greenfield village. It's an "village" with historical buildings and farms to experience life as it was years ago in the US.
Because it was Memorial Day, vintage airplanes were flying overhead.
Modern homesteading in some ways is not that far removed from the old life. You still need water and resources to survive.
My girls learn about washing cloths with a campfire and a washboard.
They give it a try.
Steam Engine Locomotives
Daniel was really curious about the train noises, which were getting louder and louder as the train approached.
Then it got too loud and Daniel got a little scared.
Highlight of the day for the girls was the carousel ride.
My daughter's comment: "It's funner than I thought it would be."
Historic Clothing
In one of the pavilions there was vintage clothing on display.
People were dressed up in period clothing.
Civil War Reenactors
For Memorial Day, both Union and Confederate Civil War Reenactors were there, camping on the grounds and marching to the drummer. At noon, they performed a Memorial Day ceremony to honor the fallen military of all US wars.
Due to PC issues, the confederate flag was not present at the ceremony.
Train Ride Time
The girls were getting pretty hot and tired, so we decided to take a train ride around the village, then head home.
People were already finding their spot to watch the Civil War reenactment later in the day.
Felt a cool breeze riding through the forest.
My family had a fun time on the train.
It was a fun day out at the Village.

Bless the Most High!

Ahhhhhhhhh!
We did that last year. Our friends have season passes.
It is only 20-30 min away.... I wish I had been in MI and wish I had known.... That would have been great fun to meet your family their!
Alas I am in Montana, getting some great therapy!
So glad yall had a great time, it is a very cool place!!!
Peace
I was visiting your side of town! Except you are in the beautiful state of Montana. Where the air is clearer and the skies bluer. @ironshield
Greenfield village is awesome. I haven't been there since I was a kid. I keep thinking I should make the drive down again and see it, but I never get around to it. Crossroads Village was always a fun place with the train ride as well.
It's really improved over the years. It's very clean and all the buildings are open to the public. They're also relocated some things so it's organized much better. More options for children and a lot more food choices now. :-) @ironshield
Very cool! I will have to remember that if I ever feel like heading south someday.
Daniel's face, though...! He was pretty disconcerted by that whistle.
Boy, what a beautiful day! :-)
It sure was! We'll have to go back and ride the carousel again two times, as per requested. @ironshield
thanks for sharing your day @ironshield! excellent travelogue!
I appreciate you checking it out! @ironshield
A fabulous post! Poor little Daniel hope you pacified him with an ice cream or a sweet. Blessings and upvoted!
Ha, no icecream or candy. He was alright, once he realized the scary noise wasn't going to hurt him. He was cheerful the rest of the day. He especially enjoyed the carousel. @ironshield
LOoks like a great day and this is a place added to my wish list of places to visit :)
It was great. If you get the chance to visit, it's worth it! @ironshield
Wow, this really a nice place to be, hope you guys had a nice stay. My regards to your family, tell Daniel a Friend from Nigerian cares.
