Hard days
My girlfriend and I have had some difficult days in the past week. In my introduction post, I had stated that my girlfriend has ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed in the summer of 2016.
This past weekend, she was hospitalized for an infection for 4 days. The hardest day was yesterday. She was told that chemotherapy will no longer be able to make a difference. Her oncologist has given her an estimate of months, but if they were to continue chemo, it could be far less.
We are trying to focus on enjoying life as much as possible.
She would say to everyone, listen to your bodies. Don't wait. Know you family history, if at all possible, and have good conversations with your family doctor. Women, learn the signs of ovarian cancer in addition to those of breast cancer. There is currently no test for early detection for ovarian cancer. Be your own best advocate. Early detection of all types of cancer will improve your chances of survival. Wear sunscreen, don't use tobacco, check your homes for radon (if you're in a known radon area). Do your self checks, listen to your body, and get your physicals and screenings.
Keep all those who are fighting cancer in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for reading.
