Toad time again
Every year the local toads come out of hibernation and get on the move to the breeding ponds.
They apparently wait for the right level of warmth and dampness and off they run.
Unfortunately they need to cross the road here, and, well, you can guess what happens then!
Toad numbers are in decline, so something needed to be done.
For the last few years this now happens for about 3 weeks...
I've yet to see a toad on the move, it must be happening when i'm sleeping.
We get some toads around our garden, but I haven't seen a road closed for them here. I saw a frog out and about yesterday
I've never seen it anywhere else either. There is funding from our local community association and the council obviously support it.
Good for locals initiated something like this. A perfect example of human understand the natural ecosystem.
I think that's great: everything stops for toads!
