The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell -0.6 points in May, to 95.3, the lowest since October 2024.

Year-to-date, this figure has declined -4.2 points, already surpassing the 2025 full-year decrease of -3.3 points.

The % of small business owners expecting better business conditions has declined -21 percentage points this year, to 3%, the lowest since October 2024.

Furthermore, just 7% of small firms believe it is a good time to expand, also the lowest since October 2024.

All while taxes, inflation, and labor costs remain the most cited problems among small business owners.

Outlook among US small businesses is bleak.

It's concerning to see the NFIB Small Business Optimism Index decline so significantly, especially with taxes, inflation, and labor costs being major concerns for small business owners. 💸😐
