Thoughts on Fate
So here’s the story seems like a trifle, but it perfectly shows how life loves to spin us around like a cat by its tail. So, look. A few years ago my wife worked at a law firm. Just your typical office hustle: coffee, papers, computers, clients, everyone with their own quirks. And among all that circus, there was one woman is a notary. A serious lady, it seemed. All official and important on paper. But she had one fatal flaw: she was scared shitless of cockroaches. Like, full-on panic, hysteria, screaming — the whole package.
And the office as you can imagine wasn’t some sterile lab. Sometimes after work you’d find a couple of dead cockroaches lying under a desk. So guess who had to clean them up? My wife. Not because her job title was “cockroach sanitation officer,” but because the notary couldn’t even look in that direction. And every time it was a full-on show. The moment she noticed one of those creatures.... bam! Screaming, jumping back half a meter, hands up, eyes like saucers. And my wife just stands there, watching all this, then goes and sweeps up the corpse with a broom. Every damn time the same thing. Both funny and weird at once.
But the best part of this story is how it all turned out later. A few years passed. And now my wife and that same notary are colleagues, working together. Not just side by side, but truly in the same team. And not just tolerating each other, they’ve become good friends. Can you imagine? The one who used to be terrified of cockroaches now calls my wife to chat, to ask for advice, they gossip and laugh together. And you’d never guess that once one of them screamed while the other chased after her with a broom.
And that’s when you start thinking that fate is a slippery fucking thing... Today you’re sweeping cockroaches from under someone else’s desk, and tomorrow you’re sitting next to that same person, drinking coffee, discussing work, laughing about old nonsense. You never know where life will toss you. And you either scream in horror or laugh your ass off. It all depends on who you decide to be at that moment, and which road you choose to take.
