Crowdsourcing - A Prime Example

in #blog5 years ago

In past weeks, as probably many of you, I mostly have been stuck inside due to the virus. Today I got particularly bored and decided to resurrect an old project I have been working on.

A while back, one of my friends was tinkering in his house on some device to measure the air quality. A bunch of cables, a laptop, and some computer hardware were laying around on his desk. It was on this day that I became aware of luftdaten.info.

It is a crowdsourcing project that aims to map the global air quality through simple homemade measurement devices. Pretty neat right!

The basic idea: buy some easy to get parts, hook them up, install the firmware, and start measuring! Here is a screenshot of my own sensor assembled:

I have it running indoors now for a few hours, and it seems to run smoothly. Tomorrow I'll put it outside and start contributing to this project.

For now, my measured data is as follows (pictures are updating):

Via this website, you can check on a map where all the data is.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!
