Gaten Matarazzo [Dustin from Stranger Things] and his rare genetic disease

Gaten Matarazzo is 15. He is one of the main stars of one of the most popular shows right now: #StrangerThings. His character, Dustin, is lovable, funny and endearing. If we go back to the first episode of the first season, we will realise the bullies of the school were picking on him and calling him names. One of those names was "toothless". And our heart goes out to him because he actually corrects the bullies and points out he suffers from a disease. Well, some people might think this was just during the show, but it isn't.

Gaten has cleidocranial dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder that makes the development of bones and teeth that much harder, depending on the degree and severity of the condition. You probably might be wondering how many chances we have of getting such a disease. Well, as Gaten explained for people bodies magazine, there's a one in a million chance of suffering from cleidocranial dysplasia. As we have already established before, the severity of the condition depends on its degree. We can only imagine how live must be for people that are living with this disease and their case is not mild, like Gaten's is.

Why do we get this disease? Well, it is often, as we've previously stated, genetic, so your mother or father should have it and pass it on to you. However, in some case you just have it even if no one in your family has had it before you. This is actually Gaten's case. But this hasn't hold Gaten back and now he is making sure everyone is aware of the existence of this disease.

I really wanted to talk about Gaten today because I just saw on #instagram that he is going to be hosting this Sunday the #AMAS and I can't wait to watch him do his thing: be hilarious.
