STEEMIT- Not As Easy As It Seems

Heard about steemit from a friend who told me about how she's earning by posting/creating contents online
Quickly joined with the hope of making some money

Made my first post and got 0.87steem, that have been the highest I've gotten..really feel discouraged
How do I increase my earnings here
