I Started Friday With A DUI

NOT How I Expected Friday To Start

The day started like any other. Up before the crack of dawn (thanks a lot, daylight savings!) an hour long drive into work. I expected to just got to my office and log in to my computer and get started on my daily tasks. What I didn't expect was something so out of the ordinary I've never had happen to me before.

I saw a person called my phone and I tried calling them back with no luck. Logging into my computer, enduring the slow process of loading my profile, I finally get into email to see the person that recently called me sent me an e-mail with rare news: someone got a DUI (driving under the influence).

Unfortunately, this isn't idle gossip. An event such as this triggers a flurry of different actions that must take place as this person's future and position in the government become jeopardized. For those of you unfamiliar, many positions in the government require a certain level of trust. Sometimes a person's actions are such that the government is no longer able to trust them with sensitive information. So when something like this happens, the organization that instills this trust comes to question the ability of the person to make sound decisions.

In a way, it was nice to experience this so I could learn the processes and understand the steps that need to be taken when one of these events occur. These incidents could include domestic violence, heavy gambling, substance abuse or addiction, or even odd travel plans.

Needless to say, I don't expect I'll ever have one of these situations occur in my life, personally...but it's comforting to know they don't just allow anyone to have access to sensitive information. And like anything in life, once you lose that trust, it's almost impossible to get it back.

So don't put yourself in the position to lose it!

Indeed, you cannot risk doing stuff that ruins your reputation or trust...when people say that they have bad memory (like me), most of the times they mean their ability to remember somewhat important stuff like when is the next pizza discount. They can remember failures of people insanely well - like a normal person.

the only exception is me, where I don't remember anything well, including people's stuff, unless I hate that guy a lot till it breaks this rule

Nothing can be fully erased :) Be careful.

Hahaha, yes, good point. Those important things can stick out in your mind easier if you have some kind of routine. For me though, if it's something that is happening "one time only", then it really takes some effort to break from my routine to remember it.

Thanks for the insight....I hope both of our memories improve with time!
