Spinning Their Wheels
The Toronto Blue Jays continue to have a difficult time getting any sort of traction in the 2017 Baseball season.
After a promising 5 game winning streak the Jays were in tough against a much improved Atlanta Braves team who won 3 of 4 games. Then on to Baltimore, where in all fairness the Jays have played better, but only have a win to show for it. They lost a Marathon, Rain delayed, Extra Inning game on Friday night, and on Saturday had a lead after a Jose Bautista Homer in the 7th inning, but the Orioles responded with Homer of their own in the bottom half of the inning and cruised to a 7 to 5 win. On Sunday the Jays rode a 3 run Homer from Devin Travis in the 1st, and relied on Marco Estrada the rest of the way. Estrada pitched a gem, going 7 2/3 innings striking out 12 batters (a career high) to salvage the 3 game series.
Despite the struggles there are some positives that the Jays can look to. Devin Travis has been on a absolute tear in the month of May hitting a record number of doubles. and Luke Mailie who has shown experience beyond his years behind the plate, and the Bullpen has stepped up with some solid performances from Joe Biagini, and Roberto Osuna, when asked.
The injuries have piled up this year also. Veterans position players such as Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, and Pitcher Aaron Sanchez are still on the DL.
The Jays now 19 and 26 have tomorrow off before starting a 2 game series against the Brewers, and than return home to play the Rangers.
