BLOG #01.1: MY LIFE AS A DANCER (Part I)

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

     Hey Steemians!

It's Sofi back, hope you haven't forgot of me that quickly haha.

Last Monday I introduced myself and I wrote about what kind of posts I'll be publishing from now on. And my first ever real post it's about my life as a dancer as you can see in the title up above ⬆

Why did I choose this as my first post?

The answer it's quite simple: Dancing is my life.

     THE BEGINNING

I started dancing when I was 5 years old. My mom told me that when I was little I was a kind of girl that always wanted to dance, and that I used to look for TV shows that showed music so I could dance to it. Also, she told me that I really insisted her too much to let me sign up to a dance academy, so that's what she did.

In the picture you can see myself as a 5 year-old little girl dancing to Joropo, wich is a native dance from my country, Venezuela.

I'm always thankful for learning this kind of dance first. Because it's native. Because it belongs to my beautiful country. Everytime I dance to it I can feel that love for my country, besides everything that's going on. And it's so powerful that my feet an arms move along the sound of the music.

But dancing Joropo it's not easy though. It could be fast, or slow. You have to listen to the music really well so that your steps can go according to the music.

A few years ago I made a research about Joropo, and I was very surprised by the results.

Joropo dancing began when mexican teachers came to Venezuela and taught about their native dancing which is very similar of what Joropo is now. So it's root comes from Mexico. It was very interesting knowing that.

I was in this dance academy for 11 years, but it has never been out of my life. Sometimes when I have the opportunity, I dance with them to Joropo or maybe another native dances, at least once a year after I left.

     IMPROVING MY SKILLS

When I got to 13 years old, I wanted to improve myself doing something completely different and also to improve my technique.

What else could be better than Ballet

I've always done ballet, but never really really ballet. With the pointe shoes, tutús, and all that cute stuff that almost every girl wants to try on at least once in their lives. So, that was me. Being really excited about a new beginning, new steps, getting flexible, using pointe shoes and a cute tutú.

But as everything in this life, it has never been easy (even now).

When I started it was really hard. I wasn't flexible at all, and my feet were in such a bad position. But with really hard work, and step by step, I started to get into it.

Ballet is such a complex technique. Where every step has to be perfect. Every position of the body, feet, and arms has its "formula" and it could NOT be changed. It's kind of a rule. And it has to be obligatory included in EVERY kind of dance, because Ballet it's the root of every dance we have now a days. That means Ballet it's the oldest dance in life (And I'm talking about around 1600's).

In Christmas it's normally used to dance to The Nutcracker, which is a very popular Christmas story that has a lot of variety with theater plays, movies, etc.

In 2015 I had the opportunity of dancing for the first time ever using my pointe shoes. Yes. Finally! After 3 years of hard work I reached my goal of dancing on pointe shoes and a cute tutú❤

Here's a picture of that beautiful moment that every dancer loves: The Applauses.
