Reddit becomes a propaganda hub: Shameless censorship

in #blog8 years ago

Only with the power of censorship can you make George W. Bush look like a saint.

Don't you want some 'wholesome memes' when you browse?

Quote from the thread, a fluff-job for George W. Bush:

We had to nuke this thread and lock it because even on the nicest place on the internet, people still have feelings. This is not necessarily bad, but we here at /r/WholesomeMemes believe that if you do not have anything nice to say, please refrain from saying anything. If you have any questions about this, or want to discuss further, please shoot us a PM. We are happy to talk.

Reddit mods have a great way of putting a nice face to blatant censorship. The Reddit I used to know would have no-holds barred when it came to George W. Bush, known liar and war criminal. Instead, there's an organized campaign to make his legacy sparkling clean.

Included is the link with the censored replies that were deleted. Here's a few choice ones:

oh christ I'm going to be sic, the man is a war criminal that stocked racial hatred for political points and left the middle east in tatters yet you fucks just give him a pass because he's got a good pr campaign going now.

Tends to happen when hundreds of thousands of people die becuase of you.

Nothing more wholesome than lying a country into war that got literally millions of people killed!

He killed upwards a 1,000,000 people based on lies and morons on reddit rehabilitate him because he seemed like a nice guy. It makes me want to puke.

With Steemit, it actually costs money to downvote people when you could be upvoting your friends instead! Plus, you can see who exactly is doing the downvoting, and it is used very rarely.

Instead, we have a social media platform like Reddit that has gotten so popular that it had to be controlled by big interests. It is really disgusting to see a site that I used to enjoy become something as shitty as FOX news.

Sort:

It is less censored then Steemit.

Debatable, but at least I have control over my posts and I can see them in the blockchain with everyone else's comments. It costs nothing to censor posts on Reddit but to become a whale here would be a huge investment. Also if the founders went around downvoting posts they didn't like it would be totally transparent and shameless. With Reddit they can do it all secretly.

The whales do go around flagging stuff, and their power was not an investment as they got it from mining steem before the public had access to it and all mining stopped.
The people that have tried to talk about it get censored and run off the site. It also costs nothing on steemit to censor something.

Steemit is more censored then all the other sites combined.
