I Start Loving Charitable Work
Green Umbrella truly has changed my attitude towards charitable work.
Last Saturday, I went on a charity trip initiated by ACCA Cambodia, aiming to bring donations to Green Umbrella, a non-profit organization located in Takeo Province, Cambodia. The organization is run to make it accessible for poor children to receive proper education. Currently, it offers only primary education from grade 1 to 6. It was an eye-opening experience to me as it was my first time seeing a well structured organization like that compared to what I did in the past, which truly inspires me. Though it’s small, the founder and all the staff there have a clear goal and visions. They want to make impact to the society by contributing their effort and money in helping younger generations, particular those who can’t afford quality education to have a chance to get into school. Big in heart, the founder has managed to find donors locally and internationally.
What makes the school different
Unlike other organizations or schools, Green Umbrella empowers young children to become self-independent, future leaders and helpful to one another. They learn to be organized individuals by taking responsibility of their own actions. To exemplify, the liter they produce needs to be brought back home to develop a sense of saving in them. Also, they need to clean their dishes and table after meal. Besides, they are assigned to work on different projects which enable them to master their communication and leadership skills. They learn how to delegate tasks and anticipate the results effectively. The organization also manages to form a football team as well. That’s what we normally called U15. They are well trained by professional coach from abroad. As the result, among 30 matches they competed, only 2 matches they lost. They are such incredible.
All students are required to study both morning and afternoon with a break in between. Breakfast is served in the morning. After the class ends at 11 o’clock, they will have lunch cooked by the school chef. Then, they are obliged to shower and take a nap before starting another session in the afternoon. The classrooms are incredible. All of them are filled with artwork produced by students like drawing, vast, wall paper, ect. There is Toy room for them to play as well.
As I know, the organization is also partner with other public health and dental service. Annually, students are educated about how to take care their teeth, and health in general. There are dentist coming to have regular check up and provide cleaning and fixing service as well. Currently, the organization is being sponsored another building consisting of 2 classrooms which will be for 4th and 5th graders. The building is expected to finish in 4 weeks time.

The recruitment process
The recruitment process is quite demanding I would say as only one kid from one family is allowed to enroll. The kid needs to be in a poor family and is aware of making him or herself clean. The fund of the organization is limited, making it impossible to afford for every child. However, once they are enrolled, everything mentioned above will be covered.
